Ever see a pirate without a pet bird? The image is so trenched in our minds that we cannot think of a pirate without a bird. Why is that? It’s because birds share a lifelong relationship with their owner. The moment you take in a bird be prepared for some mess, noise and of course friendship.
Birds like all pets require care and attention. They need to be exposed to ultraviolet rays of the sun. Theses ultraviolet rays help them in absorption of calcium without which they will start loosing muscle tone and bones. The sunlight coming window is inadequate and hence you may to have to take t out in the sun during a sunny day simultaneously making sure that it is safe from the neighborhood cats and dogs. If the day is too hot then create a shaded area in the cage by placing a cloth above the cage so that bird can retire in the cooler area when it feels too hot in the sun
Next on the list is cleanliness. It is bit tedious in case of birds as they are in the cage and have no mobility. They constantly create mess due to their saliva, uneaten food. Constant care has to be taken to make sure that the cage remains clean. This can be done by cleaning the floor of the cage with soaked soap water. It is advisable to have a number of food bowls handy to replace every day while you clean the first one. To clean the food bowl you would need to immerse it in disinfectant for some time. Apart from these, the uneaten food should be discarded because it is highly likely that they are contaminated with bird’s saliva.
Taking care of birds is not an easy task but it is not difficult either. And there is a lifelong bonding to be shared if only you can take some effort.
