Declawing Cat

Remember how as a kid you use to bite when pushed to desperation? What if someone had then taken all your teeth out saying that you have become a dangerous animal? Now I also know that this is something that you did when you were kid and now that you have grown up you don’t do any such stuff. Similar is the case with cat. They might have used their claws but it does not mean that you take them out. The comparison seems unfair but the point is same.

As we grow old we mature and realize that you done bite (unless you are Mike Tyson and in that case you bite opponents ear) so is the case with cat. As they are domesticated and trained they don’t use their claws unless they are in mortal danger and self defense in that time is understandable. Again the comparison seems unfair but the point is whether declawing at all necessary?

Declawing is an inhuman practice and in many places it has been banned. It continues to draw flak from the animal rights activist group.

Why don’t we instead of declawing trim their nail and keep them clean? After all this is what we do with dogs and birds. The process is simple. You take a nail trimmer and sit beside your cat. Keep its claw on your hand and the trimmer parallel to the claw. You identify the pink part and make sure that you don’t hurt your cat. Slowly trim the nail. If you are with someone it’s generally better to make the other person hold the claw and you clean it. It is also advised that you reward your cat after every such session because it will make her cooperate with you next time and the process would become much simpler.
