There are different types of skin allergies which are found in dogs that cause itchy skin. There are symptomatic treatments which are based on dog skin allergy symptoms that can help in relieving the pain, but we might need still more specific treatment to solve the individual diseases. Skin disorders in dogs can range from acute problems to long-lasting or chronic disorders which might require treatment for life-time. Dog skin allergies can cause hair loss and irritation in their skin. Some common dog skin allergies are,

  1. Immune mediated dog skin allergies
  2. Infectious skin allergies
  3. Flea allergy dermatitis
  4. Bacterial infections which are caused from dog skin allergies.

Certain skin problems arise from deficiency in the immune system. Common examples of such diseases are recurrent skin allergies like Malessezia infection and some form of bacterial infections. The hypersensitivity disorders like atopic dermatitis and skin allergies caused due to autoimmunity like discoid lupus and aspemhigus are examples of such immune mediate skin allergies.

Another example of dog skin allergy is canine atopy which is a chronic and hereditary dog skin allergy. The dog skin allergy symptoms for canine atopy include itching around the ears, eyes and feet. This disease generally starts between six months to three years with some dog breeds like Golden Retriever.

Another type of skin allergy is acute moist dermatitis which is also termed as hotspot. This causes inflamed skin and it becomes worse by biting and licking of dogs at themselves. The hotspots spread rapidly and cause the breakdown of top layers of dog skin. Ringworms are fungal infections in dogs which are commonly found in puppies than the adults. The dog skin allergy symptoms include hair loss, skin sores, thickening of skin, inflammation, itchiness which is expressed by biting, scratching, licking and rubbing of skin.  Atopy is some form of dog skin allergy which is caused to inhalation of pollens, molds and house dust.
