We have compiled a few dog training tips to help all the dog owners out there.
In order to get his attention, just use something like a doll or toy and wave it above his head. Once he notices it, through it out. Do not throw it too far; just about five feet should be fine. Throwing it further down, might harm him, especially when he gets down to the end. When you do throw it, do not only say fetch. Incorporate his name, so if his name where Jimmy, you would say, “Jimmy, fetch!” Sometimes he might drop it on the ground by mistake. So, when he takes it again, you must take the toy from his mouth saying “out”, so this was, he will be trained in order for this exact rule. Everyone deserves a treat for their accomplishment. Whenever he listens to you and actually obeys, you should give him something he likes. Whenever he listens to your signals, you should reward him, so that he knows to listen to your signals more often. This is a very important and great tip for every dog owner, as it works with every dog.
Some people do not have some of the tools needed to train the dog properly. If you feel, that your dog is not the type which is controllable or is harder to train, you could find some tools in pet stores, to help with the training. You can even ask your local pet store or veterinarian for tips. When most people begin training, they start with the most common sign, sitting down. Your dog should be trained for this command at an early age, so he catches on. If your dog is not trained, he will just jump all over the place. Kids love playing with the dog and they can even help train your dog. Here are some games that would be good for any dog.
GO FETCH: This game consists of throwing an object, mostly a ball, a distance of five to ten feet and letting your dog go and bring it back. This in fact, trains the dog to actually bring back the item to you. While playing the game, you could teach him the following signals; Fetch! Drop! Go! Come!
HIDE AND SEEK: This is a great game, it is best for dogs as well. This is best if it is played inside the home. It teaches your dog several signals, such as Stay! Wait! Come! Seek! You can hide yourself, or use a toy. You just hide the toy and tell him to find it.
