Having a pet may help people achieve health goals, such as lowered blood pressure, or mental goals, such as decreased stress. There appears to be strong evidence that having a pet can help a person lead a longer, healthier life. Before you buy a pet it is very important to know their basic needs, behavior and ailments.
The most common hamster kept as a pet is Syrian or Golden hamster. Syrian hamster can make excellent pet. They are active with great personalities. If they are raised and handled properly they will be friends forever. They must live on their own as they are territorial animals. They are nocturnal animals which mean that they are most active at night.
A safe, comfortable home is one of the most important things you can provide for your furry friend. The cage should be large enough for pets to move freely and exercise, change their posture (most need room to stand on their hind legs), and be able to reach food and water easily.
Use plenty of woodchips in the bottom of their cage so that wood chips soak their urine. An animal’s safe bedding should be used. Change the bedding twice a week to be sure it stays clean and dry. Syrian hamsters are omnivorous. Fresh, high quality commercial pellets or feed blocks, designed for each species of pocket pet, provide the most complete nutrition. HamsterĀ should have fresh, clean water available to them 24 hours a day.
To stop your pet from getting bored you should provide them with toys but do not overcrowd the cage with them. A “hide box”–a small box, tube, or other enclosed area where your pet can conceal himself-will make him feel safe and comfortable. Keep your pet indoor to keep it safe from sunlight
